Rathcor NS Student's Council
Our student's council have been working diligently to help improve Rathcor NS and make it the best school for our pupils. One of their requests was to upgrade our football pump and purchase some new tennis balls for playtime and here they are with the new equipment procured. Well done!
School Tour 2026
Our school tour took place on Friday 19th June - the weather was terrible but it didn't dampen our spirits, we managed to have a great day out at Gr8 Entertainment in Castleblaney and stayed dry!!
Amazing
Our parents are amazing, they are simply the best, always looking for ways to help and support the school. This week one of our parents (thank you Fionnghuala) was extremely creative and embraced our Green Schools ethos by creating these brilliant "food" stones for our children to use. They will get loads of use from our students. Thank you for continuing to support our students.
First Holy Communion Class of 2026
The boys and girls in 2nd class made their First Holy Communion on Saturday 23rd May. A huge thank you to Canon Malachy, Fr. John and Fr. Damien for celebrating this special day with us and also to Mrs. O'Reilly, Mr. O'Neill and Yvonne for helping to prepare the children for this important occasion. The children would also like to thank their parents and families for supporting them on their special day.
Baking
Our students had a wonderful time in the kitchen this week making delicious homemade scones! They learned important baking skills such as measuring ingredients, mixing dough, and working together as a team.
The smell of freshly baked scones filled the school as everyone enjoyed getting hands-on and creative. After all their hard work, the students were delighted to taste their tasty treats. Well done to all our fantastic young bakers!

Fire Safety Visit
Many thanks to the Carlingford Fire Service who called into the school recently and gave a talk to our students about fire safety - we appreciate you taking time out from your busy schedule to visit us.
Congratulations
A big congratulations to our 6th Class boys and girls who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday 2nd May. A big thank you to Ms. White and Mr. O'Neill who helped prepare the students for the ceremony. The children were so well behaved and participated beautifully in the ceremony, they were a credit to both the school and their parents and we are so very proud of each and every one of you. A special mention also to their fellow students who sung in the choir or who were altar servers on the day - you greatly added to the ceremony and your participation was very much appreciated. Easter Art Work
Our Junior, Senior and First Classes have been developing their fine motor skills while working on their Easter Artwork. They have worked really hard and have produced some amazing pieces that can be proudly displayed both in school and at home. Well done to all.
Chalk & Art Supplies
Our Parent's Association recently donated lots of chalk and art supplies to our school, the students have been enjoying creating wonderful masterpieces with all these new supplies.
Light Up The World For St. Patrick's Day
Our student's took inspiration from the many world monuments that are lit up in green for St. Patrick's Day for their latest art display. The Eiffel Tower and Sydney Opera House never looked so good.
Grandparent's Day
Our School Grandparents’ Day was a joyful and heartwarming celebration. Students proudly showcased their talents in a special assembly with their artwork proudly on display for our special visitors to view. Songs, poems and prayers were proudly delivered in front of our most distinguished guests.

Shamrock For Everyone
A huge thank you to O'Neills Flowers, who kindly donated living shamrock plants to all our students in time for St. Patrick's Day.
Learning New Skills
Our First Class students have been working very hard on developing their understanding of place value and with the help of senior students Pierce and Patrick have been learning how to estimate and measure length. It's wonderful to see students encouraging and learning from each other and embracing the opportunity to work together.
World Book Day 2026
Our students recently celebrated World Book Day - we had a wonderful array of costumes on display (some of which embraced our Green School ethos and were made from recyclable materials) and our students made comic books which they shared with the whole school community. Well done to all.
Projects And More
Our students have been very busy in the last few weeks, completing projects and working on decorations. Some of our classes worked on Newgrange and Castle projects, they made models and displays and explained what they had learned to the other students. These displays were fantastic and show the hard work of our students. Well done to all.
Procedural Writing
This week our 4th, 5th and 6th classes were focusing on procedural writing, which led to some high quality '15s' being made for all to enjoy. Well done to Ms. White and her classes for their wonderful work.

Raps: Festive Fun and Teamwork
Our students embraced modern poetry and the Xmas spirit, working together to create Festive Raps to entertain everyone. The students displayed great teamwork and enthusiasm and thoroughly embraced the exercise.
Santa and The Grinch
Chaos reigned in Rathcor NS on 12th December when Santa Claus and the Grinch paid us a visit. Such fun and excitement was had by all, students and teachers alike, and we would like to thank our amazing Parent's Association and of course Santa and the Grinch for fitting us into their busy schedules. 2nd and 3rd class then made some beautiful Nutella bread which was enjoyed so a great day was had by all.

Pen Licence
Our 3rd class students have been working really hard on their handwriting and recently achieved their 'Pen Licences' - well done to you all and keep up the good work.
Junior Infants 2025/2026
On Thursday 28th August we welcomed our Junior Infants Class 2025 to Rathcor National School. This year we have 1 new pupil joining our school and we are so happy to have her with us. We wish Neasa all the very best and we know that she will be a wonderful addition to our school. Here she is on her 1st day. We would like to welcome all our students back after their summer break and we hope that 2025/2026 will be another wonderful year for Rathcor NS.
Graduation & Flag Raising
On Monday 23rd June we held our 6th Class Graduation Ceremony and combined it with raising our new Green Schools Flag and celebrating the achievement of our first Active Schools Flag. Many thanks to all who attended and to all the teachers who prepared the students for the Graduation Ceremony, a special thank you to Yvonne for her wonderful photo displays. Our 6th class pupils have been wonderful students throughout their time in Rathcor NS and we are going to miss them all. We know that your futures are very bright and we wish you all the very best.
VIP Visitors
In June we had a visit from some VIPs to Rathcor National School. Former pupil Stephen Malone and his sister Evelyn were back in Ireland visiting family and they called in to say hello and to share all the news on their new home Australia. The children were all excited to see their friends and we were so happy to catch up with them, many thanks to their mammy Arlene who took time out of their busy schedules to come and see us.
Bench Painters & Yard Sweepers

Junior & Senior Infants Tour 2025
Our Junior and Senior Infants had their school tour on Wed 18th June where they visited Red Mountain Open Farm. A great time was had by all, the students behaved beautifully and had a great time making memories.
Titanic Project
Our 1st, 2nd and 3rd class students recently carried out a project on the Titanic, these students worked in pairs, finding out facts about the famous sinking ship and creating models to show the sinking. The students then presented their work to staff and pupils in the other classrooms. The students showed great knowledge, research and creativity in their projects and their teamwork was amazing, Well done all on your wonderful projects.
School Tour 1st - 6th Class
Our school tour for children from 1st-6th class took place on Friday 6th June 2025. The children enjoyed a visit to Butlers Chocolate factory, where they got to see the way chocolate is produced, decorated some chocolates of their own and even got some samples. Then it was off to Croke Park, and following Louth's recent Leinster success the visit was even more significant. The children thoroughly enjoyed the trip and a special thanks to the Parent's Association who funded the bus. Our Junior & Senior Infants will have their own tour on Wednesday 18th June.
Heritage In School Visit Monday 19th May
On Monday 19th May we were delighted to welcome Ross Cochrane from the Heritage In Schools scheme to Rathcor NS. Ross explored our lovely school grounds with the children and spoke to them about the wide variety of biodiversity that we are so lucky to have right on our door step. The children learned about all the ways our native plants can be used and how important it is to look after our environment. The visit was play-centered; delivered through fun, vibrant and exciting lessons which involved the children exploring and learning about nature in their surroundings. Ross was wonderful with the children, keeping them interested and invested throughout the visit and a wonderful, knowledgeable time was had by all. Many thanks to Ross and to the Heritage Council for facilitating the visit.

Book Fair 13th-15th May
Our school book fair took place from Tuesday 13th to Thursday 15th May and we want to take this opportunity to thank our Parent's Association, all our parents and students for supporting this initiative. The books purchased at the fair means that the school can now update our library as a result of all the money raised. The Book Fair also helped remind us of our love for reading. reminding us that“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

Congratulations
What a wonderful, amazing special day Sunday 11th May was! Massive congratulations to the Louth Senior Men's Team who were crowned Leinster Champions for the first time in 68 years. And what a special day for Rathcor National School who had past pupil Ferghal Malone on the Louth panel and current 6th class pupil Caoimhe Boyle representing our school in the half time games at the match. It was extra special for Caoimhe as her cousin Peter Lynch was playing for Louth. We are so proud of both of you. Here are some pictures of Caoimhe in action on the big day and of cousin Peter lifting the Delaney Cup.
First Holy Communion
Congratulations to our 2nd Class students who celebrated their First Holy Communion on Saturday 3rd May in St. James Church, Grange. Our students looked amazing and did so well on the day, we are so proud of you all.
Confirmation 2025
On Saturday 22nd March our 6th class boys and girls celebrated their confirmation. It was a beautiful ceremony officiated by Father Malachy. We would like to congratulate our own students and all students who recently received the Sacrament of Confirmation, we are very proud of our 6th class boys and girls. Also a big thank you to Mr. O'Neill and Ms. White who helped prepare our students for the ceremony. Don't they all look amazing!
Junior And Senior Infants
Our infant classes have been really enjoying expressing themselves during "free play" - I think we could have some future engineers, architects, builders, artists, designers, etc. in our midst looking at these creations. Maybe listening so intently during story-time gave them ideas for their beautiful creations.
School Display
Our Junior and Senior Infants have been working hard with Ms. Sheils on their Spring Notice Board display and Wow! what an amazing job they did. Lots of spring colours, original art work and "Spring words" on display, well done to all, it really brightens up the corridors and brings Spring sunshine into the school.
Independent Writing
Our Senior Infants have been working extremely hard on their writing and we are so impressed with the progress that they have made, their hard work and determination is evident to all. Féile na Tána
On Tuesday 28th January, as part of the Féile na Tána festival we were extremely lucky to receive a visit from harper Luke Webb. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to hear our national instrument and to experience traditional music in our classrooms. Luke played beautifully and completely engaged and enthralled our students, Thank you to Féile na Tána and John McIntyre for organising the visit.
Maths At Playtime
How wonderful it is to see our students enjoying learning. Yesterday some of our Senior Infants decided to do some maths using numbers they had seen on football jerseys and in a match, what's really inspiring is that they had Free Play at the time but used it to do maths work all on their own. Well done boys!
St. Patrick's Day
A number of our students took part in the Cooley St. Patrick's Day parade and how amazing they looked. They were a great representation of our school, holding signs promoting our Active Schools, Green Schools, Wellbeing and our new initiative, Student Council. We are so proud of you all and would like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful parents who organised and supported our students in this activity. Well done to all, what an amazing job you did.
World Book Day 2025

On Friday 7th March Rathcor NS celebrated World Book Day, our students dressed up as characters from their favourite books, there was quite a lot of "wizardry" going on!! and we all talked about our favourite books, some of our students even wrote their own comic strips. It was lovely to see our students of all ages coming together over their love of books.

Instruction Writing
Our 4th,5th and 6th classes have been doing lots of work on instruction writing and using it to simplify tasks. Out photos show 2 examples. In the first instance, we learned how to make toast! Tommy did a great job writing up the instructions for us. We all helped to identify the steps involved, and then we enjoyed a delicious, late breakfast.
In our second example we learned how to make Fortune Tellers. This was a tricky concept, with lots of folding required. We were all delighted with our fortunes!

St Brigid's Day 2025
We recently made crosses to celebrate St. Brigid's Day. Many thanks to all the parents who helped collect the rushes for the students. Our senior students were a great help on the day, showing the younger students how to make their crosses. Our Junior students also carried out some weaving in their art lessons, remembering St. Bridig's cloak. It was a lovely day remembering our traditions and celebrating a special day.
Looking After Our Feathered Friends
Our students have been busy taking care of our feathered friends during the Winter Season, here are Tommy and Fiadh getting one of our bird feeders ready for hanging outside on our trees. Our students like to help out the birds during Winter when food is not as readily available to them.
Coastguard Visit
How lucky are we to have such wonderful emergency services in our locality. This week we had a visit from the Coastguard services, the kids got to learn about the wonderful work that our Coastguard services do for our community and even got to put on the flashing lights and siren on their vehicle. Thank you so much to Donal and The Greenore Coast Guard for the amazing visit.
Fire Safety
Some of the crew from Carlingford Fire Station visited our school before the mid-term to present the Primary School Fire Safety Programme, developed by the Fire Service & the National Directive for Fire & Emergency Management, We would like to thank Carlingford Fire Crew for a wonderful informative morning, the children learned so much and really enjoyed your visit.

A big thank you to the Grinch who visited our school for Christmas, bringing lots of Christmas treats with him (very ungrinchly behaviour indeed!). Many thanks to our wonderful Parents Association who always go that extra mile for our students, organising all sorts of celebrity visits.

Christmas Show: Our Christmas Show took place on Friday 13th December and it was a wonderful spectacle. Well done to Ms. Sheils, Mrs. O'Reilly, Ms. White and Yvonne for all their hard work, the children were absolutely amazing! We will get the photos uploaded in the New Year!
Christmas Visit:
On Tuesday 17th December we visited Carlingford Nursing Home where the children met some family members who are staff there and entertained the residents with some Christmas Carols. Well done all on a fantastic visit.
Dundalk FC Visit
We were really lucky last week to have a visit from Dundalk FC, the students loved asking questions and getting pictures with some of the players. We would like to thank John Temple for organising the visit for us, and to Aoife, Felix and Ross from Dundalk FC - thank you for being amazing with our students and for taking time out of your busy schedules to spend with us.
Garda Visit
Our school had a visit from some of the local Gardai last week. The guards gave the students a talk on safety for the upcoming Halloween Break and gave them a tour of the Community Policing Van, the visit was very informative and was enjoyed by all our students. Many thanks to the Gardai for this special visit.
Boys Football
Our boys football team took part in the Cooley Schools Competition on Tuesday 1st October, the boys performed brilliantly, displaying great skill, determination, teamwork and sportsmanship and were a credit to the school and their parents. In the end, the Fr. McParland Cup was won by Monksland NS, however our boys did themselves proud and the future of football in Rathcor NS appears to be bright. Well done boys!
Congratulations Ms. White
Friday 01/11/2024 was a very special day for Ms. White as she celebrated her marriage to Dominic. We held a special assembly in the school before the mid-term break to celebrate this wonderful occasion with Ms. White, the students sung some lovely songs, decorated the room (and Ms. White) and presented her with some lovely gifts from students, staff and the BOM to mark the wonderful event. We wish the happy couple all the very best for their future together.
SNA Appreciation Day
Lots of schools have SNAs but we in Rathcor NS feel we have the "Best SNA in the World". Our students and staff held a very special assembly this morning to celebrate and show our appreciation to our wonderful SNA Yvonne. Yvonne is more than just an SNA in Rathcor NS, as our students informed her this morning she is also a great referee, a professional footballer, a Lego doctor, a great team picker, a wonderful nurse. She is kind, caring, funny, helpful, a great listener, has brilliant eyesight ('because she sees everything in the playground'), knows lots of words and is a wonderful friend. Our students presented Yvonne with some thoughtful gifts and some wonderful artwork. Thank you Yvonne for being you, you are very much appreciated by all the students, staff and families of Rathcor N.S.
Halloween Table Quiz
On Friday 25th October we held a fun Halloween Day in school, some of the children dressed up in their Halloween costumes and we held a fun table quiz with all the classes. It was wonderful integration of all the classes and was lovely to see the older and younger kids working together.
Maths Week 2024
Maths Week was celebrated in Rathcor NS from 14th - 18th October 2024. From Scavenger hunts to Quizzes on Zoom our Maths week had it all, here is a snapshot of some of the lovely events we celebrated with.
Friendship and Love
Students in Rathcor NS have been sharing their thoughts on love and friendship this week. Some beautiful poems were composed by our 3rd class students and we have decided to share some of them with you. We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we did.
Our wonderful students then did some lovely artwork in the playground, making the most of the beautiful sunshine and spending time with their friends.
Junior Infants 2024/2025
On Thursday 29th August we welcomed our Junior Infants Class 2024 to Rathcor National School. We hope that all the new Junior Infants enjoyed their first week here at Rathcor NS and that they will have a wonderful future here with us. A big Rathcor welcome to Fionn, Oscar, Mia, Kiya, Eric, Andrew, Cathy, Fionn and Tadgh. (Even Ms Sheils got in on the photo action, although we don't believe it's her 'First Day of School').
Parent's Association Fundraiser
Once again our wonderful Parent's Association knocked it out of the park! They held a very successful fundraiser on Friday 24th May. A children's disco was held in St. Mary's Hall Cooley and was packed to the rafters. Lots of fun and laughter was had, from balloon animals to a Hawaiian themed photo booth, they had it all. We continue to be amazed by the hard work and generosity of our parents and our local community, your commitment to the school is amazing and we are extremely grateful.

6th Class Last Day
On Tuesday 25th June we waved a final farewell to our 6th class students. We will greatly miss them and we wish them all the very best in their next adventures. Check out our pictures of a day well spent with all our students who then gave 6th class a lovely guard of honor as they left the school.
Mrs. Corcoran's Retirement
Our celebrations for Mrs. Corcoran continued on Tuesday 25th June with the planting of a crab apple tree to remember Mrs. Corcoran by, we planted it out by her favourite lunchtime spot and chose a native Irish tree to symbolise Mrs. Corcoran's love of all things Irish. The tree was kindly donated to us by Senator Erin McGreehan. The native Crab Apple ( Crann fia ull), Malus sylvestris, is a tree of woodlands and hedgerows throughout Ireland. Crab apples have a longstanding association with love and marriage, and the trees themselves symbolic of youth, joy, magic, and surprise… the embodiment of endless possibilities. Our students were very hands on, helping to dig the hole and decorate the tree. Our Parent's Association also sent in some lovely treats that were enjoyed by all our students
Graduation and Retirement
Our school had a hugely emotional day on Monday 24th June. We held our Graduation Ceremony for our 6th class students, Catherine, Eimear, Ellen and Conor and we had our farewell to our retiring teacher Mrs. Corcoran. Our 6th class students have excelled during their time in Rathcor, they were kind, caring, considerate of others, hardworking, trustworthy and dependable and we will greatly miss them. We wish you all the best in your next chapter.
And what can we say about Mrs. Corcoran, she has been an integral part of our school for 20years, during that time she not only enhanced the lives of the students she taught but also of the staff who were lucky enough to work alongside her. She was an amazing teacher and a wonderful colleague and friend and she is going to be greatly missed by all here in Rathcor NS and the wider school community. We wish you every happiness in your retirement Mrs. Corcoran and know that your legacy will always be a part of Rathcor National School.

School Tour 2024
Our school tour take place on Friday 21st June to Causey Farm in Co. Meath for all classes Junior Infants to 6th. All the children had a very enjoyable day, lots of fun and laughter and great memories to cherish.

Huge congratulations to Ellen Malone, who on Thursday 13th June, represented Rathcor NS in the Cumann na mBunscol Lu Poc Fada Competition, Ellen became the first ever competitor from Rathcor NS to enter this competition and we are enormously proud of her. Well done Ellen!
Baking 2024
On Thursday 20th June we made very good use of our wonderful cooking equipment and oven which was kindly sponsored earlier this year by Carling Nursing Home. We had great fun calculating the ingredients needed, working together to make beautiful, tasty fairy cakes which were enjoyed by students and staff. Have a look at us in action>

On Tuesday 28th May our students were invited to visit local company XOCEAN, XOCEAN provides turnkey ocean data. From mapping the seabed to environmental monitoring, XOCEAN offers a safe, economic and carbon neutral solution to ocean data delivery. This was a really enjoyable and informative visit for our students, they were very interested in learning exactly what XOCEAN does and how they operate. We would like to thank all in XOCEAN for this special visit and for organising the special treat of Muchgrange Ice-Cream afterwards. Some of our students even got to catch up with their parents who work in XOCEAN.

Glenmore AC Credit Union Races
The Annual Cooley Credit Union Races, held by Glenmore Athletic Club took place on Thursday 25th April 2024, we had many students competing and are very proud of everyone that took part.

On Thursday 11th April 4th - 6th classes were delighted to be invited to visit Dáil Éireann, the visit was organised by local Councillor Antoin Watters. The children were lucky enough to witness some debates during question time and to meet some of the TDs. A wonderful visit was enjoyed by all the children.

Louth Local Sports Partnership on behalf of Louth County Council as part of Bike Week 2024 provided us with Learn to Cycle lessons.

World Book Day 2024
Grandparent's Day 2024
What a wonderful celebration of family and love our Grandparent's Day was. Thank you to everybody who attended and thank you to our Parent's Association who provided lovely tea and cakes for all our visitors. Our students were so excited to share this special day with their family and friends. A special thank you to our wonderful staff who helped organise this fantastic occasion.

Huge congratulations to our wonderful Parent's Association for a very successful Bingo night fundraiser which was held on 09th February. Many thanks to all parents, family, neighbours and friends who attended and supported this fundraiser. The Rathcor NS Parent's Association do wonderful work to support our school and pupils and the school and staff are very appreciative of all their efforts and everything that they do. THANK YOU!
Celebrating St. Brigid's Day 2024
Thank you to all the boys and girls for taking rushes to school for St. Brigid's Day. Thank you to the parents also, who assisted the children in getting rushes. Well done to the pupils in 4th, 5th and 6th Classes for helping the younger children with the making of their St. Brigid's Crosses.
Huge Thank You To Carlingford Nursing Home
Carlingford Nursing Home welcomed pupils from Rathcor NS to a baking demonstration on Thursday 13th December. The pupils sang Christmas carols for the residents and the staff presented Mr. O'Neill with an oven and lots of baking utensils that will be put to great use in the school. A wonderful morning was had by all.

Office Agriaware Farming Webinar
Our 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes recently participated in An Office Agriaware Webinar on "Farming Through The Seasons". The webinar was extremely informative and enjoyable for all the children to participate in, especially as farming is such a large part of the area that they live in.

We would like to say a huge thank you to North Louth & Border Vintage Club and Rathcor NS Parent's Association for their fundraiser in aid of our school's sensory trolley. The sensory trolley is a huge asset to the school and we know that the children will benefit greatly from this resource. Creative Schools: Stop Motion Animation
Our 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th classes took part in an animations workshop with Mike Byrne as part of our Creative School's Iniative. They created amazing animations which can be viewed online on YouTube: Let's Animate with Mike. The titles of their animations are:
Steve The Snorkler, The Campsite, The Disaster of Ryan Tubridy, TikTok Alien, Tom, Worst Christmas Ever. The children really enjoyed seeing their creations being brought to life, their imaginations were brimming with inspiration and ideas. We would like to thank Mike Byrne for this wonderful workshop, his interaction with the students, patience, understanding and creativity was fantastic . Creative School Mural
As part of our Creative Schools' Project our 2022 6th Class worked with mural artist Ciaran Dunlevy to create a beautiful mural in our shelter outside. This wonderful piece of art brightens the whole playground. Our 6th class students painted wonderful hot air balloons on a sky background, each year our 6th class students will be able to add their own balloons to the shelter, making this a 'work of art in progress'. Many thanks to Ciaran for all his help.
Halloween 2023
Our students showed off an array of wonderful costumes for Halloween, really getting into the spirit of the holiday. Big shout out to the parents who helped with costumes and make-up on the day - as if mornings weren't already busy enough!!!
Well Being Week 2022-2023
Lots of fun during Well Being Week 2022/2023, Here is a snapshot of all the fun we had, we had Sports Day, Special Art Classes, Juicing, Yoga, Sound Bells, Mediations, the list was endless.. The children really got involved, encouraging the whole school community with their positive mindsets, kindness and wonderful creativity. We look forward to Well Being Week 2023/2024.

AgriKids 2019
The children and teachers in our school thoroughly enjoyed the visit from Alma Jordan, founder of ArgiKids. This is a farm safety educational platform for children. The children learned about safety on the farm with respect to machinery, animals, slurry pits, water holes & rivers, and toxic substances.
