About UsRathcor National School is a co-educational school, located in the Cooley Peninsula, Co. Louth.
We have three mainstream class teachers, one learning support teacher, and one SNA (Special Needs Assistant). Our secretary is available in the office every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The school caters for the full range of classes from Junior Infants to Sixth Class. SCHOOL NEWSWelcome Back - New School Term
Our new term began on Thursday 27th August, we welcomed 9 new Junior Infants and 1 new 3rd Class student into the school. We hope that they are going to enjoy their time here in Rathcor NS.
Over the summer some major works took place in the school, our whole school was rewired, new alarms fitted and new lighting installed. Thanks to a Clar Funding Grant we also had a new spectator fence and gates erected around the school yard and football pitch and it looks great. Many thanks to Cllr. Antoin Watters for all his help with this, it's a huge improvement to the school grounds as you can see from the photos. Our Parents Association collected blue tokens in Tesco, repainted benches and cleaned up our outdoor chalkboards so a huge thank you for all your efforts to keep our school looking amazing. Sensory GardenOur Parent's Association have also been very busy over the summer and have begun work on our new sensory garden. New fencing has been erected, the old flower beds have been cleared out and new planting has begun. We know that, when completed, this area is going to be of huge benefit to our children. It will provide a beautiful, calming, peaceful area within our school where our students and maybe even our "stressed" teachers can go to relax and recharge.
Launch of WOW, SOW, COW 2026/2027Wednesday 23rd September saw the launch of our WOW, SOW, COW days for school year 2026/2027 and we were very lucky to be joined by local Garda, Garda Cleary who was delighted to visit us to help launch our WOW, SOW, COW initiative. We are blessed to have the support of our local community in everything that we do and we appreciate very much the efforts that Garda Cleary and his colleagues go to to keep our area safe and secure.
Remember - WOW (Walk on Wednesdays), COW( Cycle on Wednesday) and SOW (Scoot on Wednesday continue every Wednesday. Remember 'Cycle, carpool or walk to school instead of burning fossil fuel'. |
School HoursClasses commence for all pupils at 09:20 sharp. Our Junior & Senior Infant pupils finish at 14:00, and pupils in First Class - Sixth Class finish at 15:00.
Office Opening Times
SNA Appreciation DayWe are truly blessed here in Rathcor NS to have the best SNA in the world, Yvonne. The students all came together last week to show Yvonne how much she means to them and to the whole school community. No task is ever too big for Yvonne, she goes above and beyond everyday to ensure that all our students are cared for, she is amazing and we all love having her in our school. Our senior students wrote a beautiful poem for her and the other students created beautiful cards and drawings. Thank you Yvonne for being You, Rathcor NS staff, students and parents truly appreciate all you do.
Parent's Association "Change Clear Out"Our Parent's Association are currently running a "Change Clear Out" fundraiser where they are asking all families to clear their small change out and donate it to the school, last year they raised over €200 with this fundraiser so we are hoping for a similar outcome this year, we ask all families to support this fundraiser where possible, we know that times are tough for everyone and truly appreciate all the donations, hard work and dedication provided by all families to the school. Your support is greatly welcomed.
Champions, Champions, ChampionsFor the first time in our school's history, our school boys team has won the Cumann na mBunscol Corn Mhic an Ghirr. Our boys team, which features students from 4th, 5th and 6th Class competed in the final on Tuesday last, the 16th June and they were tremendous. They played Dillonstown NS and after a very skillful display of football were crowned the victors. The boys played great as a team and their sportsmanship and behaviour on the field was outstanding. The team got great support from staff, parents, families and the wider community and are greatly appreciative of all who came out to cheer for them on the day and who greeted them on their return to Rathcor afterwards. They boys were rewarded with ice-cream kindly sponsored by our local Costcutter at Martins, Riverstown and were given a guard of honor from the local Cooley Kickhams men's senior team on their arrival back to the peninsula. It's a day that won't be forgotten for a long time.
